Facebook, Twitter and social media can be a very positive and powerful tool. However, it can also spread untruths as well. I want to make sure I clear myths up that are circulating on the internet about me here, once and for all:
MYTH: Dr. Corum was raised by monkeys in the wilds
of Borneo.
FACT: I actually was born in Cedar
Rapids, IA, went to high school there and first starting teaching and coaching
there. Very few monkeys were involved in
my upbringing.
MYTH: Dr. Corum graduated from the South Tampa Rodeo Clown and Beauty College.
FACT: I actually graduated with my bachelor's from Cornell
College in Mount Vernon, IA and have a master’s degree in educational
administration from Emporia State. In 2012, I obtained my doctorate from Saint Louis University. I do,
however, think rodeo clowns are pretty darn cool.
MYTH: Dr. Corum is an accomplished inventor. He invented Soap-On-A-Rope.
FACT: Actually, I teach Algebra II, Statistics and Transition to College Algebra at Staley High School in the North Kansas City (MO) School District, but I didn’t invent Soap-On-A-Rope. In fact, I don’t even use soap.
MYTH: Out of the goodness of their hearts, Dr. Corum and his wife Jennifer are raising a group of 19 alien children.
FACT: Jennifer and I have only one son,
Murphy—12 years old in 2014. We have two dogs, Chester (a King Charles cavalier spaniel) and Peanut (a mutt)—only one of which is an
alien.
MYTH: Dr. Corum’s chromosomes are laced with mutant
DNA, giving him superhuman strength.
FACT: Actually, this one is true.
